Size: Length is between 133 and 150mm,
including a 40 to 46mm tail (dependin on race).
Identification: The race found around
Lamington is genrally green with blue marks on the centre of the forehead
surrounded by some red, cheeks are orange-red , bordered below with
a mauve-blue band. The female does not have much of this head colour,
apart from the blue forehead and some red feathers.
Call/Song: This parrot makes
a shrill, penetrating tseet repeated quickly and distinctively.
There are several races of Double- eyed Fig-Parrot. The race found around
Lamington is Coxen's Fig-Parrot and its distribution extends from Maryborough
(Queensland) through to the Macleay River (northern New South Wales).
Habitat:
Lives in tropical rainforest.
Feeding: Eats mainly the seeds
of wild figs. Also eats other fruit and seeds as well as some insects.
Breeding/Nesting: Breeding
season is probably from August through to October. It builds its nest
in a hollow, excavated branch of a tree.
Movement: Usually found in
pairs or small groups. It is often seen flying over the forest and is
hard to see when perched amongst the forest trees.

Rare
Distribution:
Any
rainforest where figs occur are a possibility, though rainforest at lower
altitudes could be more likely. There have been no authentic sightings
for many years.
Abundance:
Extremely rare, perhaps extinct.
