Size: Grows to a length of 235mm,
including a 100mm tail.
Identification: The scaly-breasted
lorikeet has a green head and back, a barred yellow and green chest,
red underwing and red bill.
Call/Song: Similar, but higher in
pitch to the rainbow lorikeet.
North-eastern and eastern Australia. Found from Cooktown (Queensland)
south through to Sydney.
Habitat:This
lorikeet prefers eucalypt and open forests.
Feeding: Eats pollen, nectar, blossoms,
berries and other fruit and seeds.
Breeding/Nesting: Breeds throughout
year except March and April. Uses a tree hollow high above the ground
as a nest.
Movement: Fly swiftly in a straight
line, making an audible sound with their rapid wing-beats.

Status:
Distribution:Found
in the eucalypt forest and lightly timbered areas in the lower altitudes.
Occassionally appear around the O'reillys Gueshouse.
Abundance:Not
uncommon, but the Rainbow Lorikeet is more prevalent.
