Size: Wingspan: 110mm.

Identification: The male richmond birdwing has brilliant green and black wings and a bright golden abdomen. The female is much larger, and has drab brown and white wings and a red patch on each side of the thorax.

Call/Song: 
 
  Found from Maryborough (Queensland) south to the Clarence River (New South Wales).

Habitat: Restricted mostly to rainforest habitats.  

Feeding: Feeds on the Pine Vines Aristolochia praevenosa (this is a rare species often known as the Native Dutchman's Pipe) and Aristolochia deltantha. 

Breeding/Nesting: Lays it large, spherical, pale yellowish/greenish eggs on the leaves of Aristolochia.

Movement:  Adults are most commonly seen in September and March.

Abundance:   This buterfly is rare in the northern limit of its range but is fairly common in Lamington National Park.
