Lamington National Park
Krasnozems
are found on the basalt plateau and are deep, red, well-structured clay
soils with skeletal soils (lithosols) Due to their high nutrient
level (rich in magnesium, calcium, potassium and phoshorous), the basalt
derived krasnozems support the diverse rainforests of Lamington.
Yellow podzolic soils
derived from rhyolite (for example, around Dave's Creek) are also krasnozems.
These soils are comparatively infertile and support eucalypt forests and,
where enriched by basalt, minor areas of warm temperate rainforest.
Prairie
soils are located on the basalt slopes.
These are dark brown/ grey clay soils and although shallow they are moderately
fertile.
