Myrtaceae

This a large canopy tree that has the largest trunk diameter of any tree in Lamington National Park.
These trees resemble a eucalypt in appearance but the large green leaves and flowers are distinctive. It is a poular street tree in the southern capitals.
Leaves:  Leaves are up to 12cm in length and are dark green above and lighter below, alternate and crowded towards the ends of the branches.
Flowers:  Flowers have showy white petals.
Fruit: Fruit is bell-shaped with three valves.

Although it is a tree that favours the edges of rainforests, it grows well in a variety of conditions.
