Dry Rainforest

Also called araucarian vine forest. Generally occurs at altitudes less than 800m. Found on the drier slopes or areas that have seasonal drought.

Hoop pine is the most dominant tree in the canopy.

Is a very simple rainforest, the canopy layer is not continuous, in cross section the forest looks like this:

Leaves of trees are generally smaller than other rainforests and deciduous trees are common (e.g. crows ash). Plants with thorns are also common as are large strangler figs. Hoop pine and red cedar were extensively logged in this area in 1930's. Was once the most extensive rainforest in the South East Queensland region, now Lamington is one of the few remaining stands of this community.
