Myrtaceae

The wide distribution of this tree means that it is found in forms such as low shrubs on the coast to a tree of 20m in mountain forests. It is resistant to occassional fire. This and its ability to survive a wide range of habitats has meant that it has become a major weed in New Zealand.

Leaves:  Leaves are dark green with paler undersides. These vary in size and in the length of the tip at the end. It has a dull leaf surface and a grooved mid-vein.
Flowers:  Flowers are small, white and fluffy and blossom in early Summer.
Fruit: Mass fruitings occur in late Summer every few years.

The Lilly Pilly exists in a broad range of habitats in all types of rainforest.
