Meliaceae 

There are very few red cedars left today as their timber was and still is highly sought after by furniture makers. It is a tall tree growing to 45m.

Leaves: Leaves are compound, soft and green but reddish when young.

Flowers: Red cedars produce white flowers from October to November. 

Fruit: The fruit is a capsule which splits open into five segments when dry. Seeds are winged. Fruit is ripe from January to March.

 
Found in subtropical rainforest and in scrubby areas often bordering creeks and rivers.
